NEVADA CITY — October 26, 2026. Residents concerned about wildfire hazards near Deer Creek Canyon can attend a public town hall Monday, October 26, at 6 p.m. at the Miners Foundry Cultural Center, 325 Spring Street.
What the project proposes
Nevada County describes the Deer Creek Fuels Mitigation Project as hazardous vegetation reduction on the south side of Deer Creek Canyon. The goal is to improve protection for nearby residents, schools including Deer Creek and Seven Hills, cultural resources and essential infrastructure. The county says its 2025 Community Wildfire Protection Plan update identified the area as among the county’s highest-hazard locations.
Questions for residents
People living near the canyon may want to ask which parcels and public areas are proposed for treatment, whether access or trails could temporarily change, what equipment would be used and whether environmental or cultural resource reviews are required. The public calendar notice does not provide a detailed parcel-by-parcel construction map, so residents should not infer that a particular homeowner’s land will be cleared.
The meeting is a community information and participation event, not confirmation that all vegetation work has been completed or that wildfire risk has been eliminated. Check any subsequent county notices for approved project scope and timing.
